The large-sized internal combustion forklifts or liftrucks range in capacity from 16,500 lbs to 36,000 lbs capacity. Internal combustion fork lifts in the "large" category are most commonly equipped with large displacement six cylinder diesel engines. Rarely, and usually only by special order, will such units come from the factory with an optional eight cylinder gasoline or LPG (propane) engines.

Large internal combustion pneumatic sit-down forklifts have planetary drive axles, air brakes, and 3-speed power shift transmissions. Provided there is adequate ventilation internal combustion pneumatic forklifts can be used indoors, but the preferred use is in outdoor situations.

Equipped with air filled pneumatic tires, these large forklifts are typically used outside on yard surfaces such as crushed concrete, packed gravel, or stabilized limestone. These forklifts are not recommended to be used on dirt due to their pneumatic tires, except on a very limited basis, as long as it's well packed and not loose, or muddy. Pneumatic tire forklifts are suggested for use on hard, smooth surfaces such as concrete. Pneumatic tire-equipped forklifts have a larger turning radius than solid cushion tire warehouse forklifts and liftrucks.

Internal combustion pneumatic liftrucks can be used in a wide variety of applications due to their capacity. These large warehouse forklifts can also be used to stack pallets or various loads, as well as move pallets or loads around a facility.
